Job Opportunities

Join Seaside Pups and turn your love for animals and the outdoors into a rewarding career

Currently Hiring: Canine/Feline Carer

Part-Time Employee Seaside Pups Pet Care | Monterey Peninsula, CA Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–2:00 PM | $18/hour

About Seaside Pups Pet Care

At Seaside Pups Pet Care, we believe pets deserve more than someone who just shows up. They deserve someone who pays attention, takes pride in their work, and treats every pet like family. We're a growing professional pet care business serving dogs and cats across the Monterey Peninsula, and we hold ourselves to a high standard, in the care we deliver, the way we communicate with clients, and the people we bring onto our team.

We're looking for a dependable, trustworthy, observant, and genuinely animal-loving Canine/Feline Carer to join us. This is a professional role, not a side hobby, and we're looking for someone who treats it that way and who ideally would like to grow with our company.

The Role

As a Canine and Feline Carer, you'll be a trusted, client-facing member of our team. You'll work in clients' homes and neighborhoods across the Monterey Peninsula, caring for dogs and cats. You'll follow detailed care instructions, use sound judgment, communicate professionally, and represent Seaside Pups during every visit.

This is an active, outdoor role along one of the most beautiful coastlines in California. It requires physical stamina, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Your Responsibilities May Include:

  • Providing in-home care for dogs and cats according to each client's specific instructions

  • Transporting dogs in your vehicle to and from walk locations

  • Walking dogs in clients' neighborhoods and on local trails, beaches, and parks

  • Conducting drop-in visits for dogs, cats and other pets: feeding, litter box care, playtime, and health observation

  • Safely managing multiple animals, including walking more than one dog at a time when needed

  • Sending timely, professional updates and photos to clients following each visit

  • Observing pets carefully and flagging any health, behavior, or safety concerns promptly

  • Following all company protocols and client preferences precisely

  • Using your own vehicle to drive to client locations throughout the service area (Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Seaside, Marina). Mileage reimbursement provided.

Who We're Looking For

We're not looking for someone who just loves animals. We're looking for someone who takes responsibility seriously, communicates clearly, and understands that clients are trusting us with members of their family.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has professional hands-on experience with both dogs and cats though other experience may be considered.

  • Is deeply reliable, you show up on time and follow through

  • Stays calm and uses good judgment when situations are stressful or unexpected

  • Is observant, you notice when something's off before it becomes a problem

  • Communicates professionally with clients, including in writing

  • Is comfortable working independently without constant oversight

  • Is warm and trustworthy when working with both pets and clients

  • Takes pride in representing a small business well in every single visit

  • Is comfortable and confident with animal messes, as we all kinds.

  • Experience with reactive dogs is a huge bonus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18 years or older and legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Experience working with dogs and cats (professional experience preferred; substantial personal care experience considered)

  • Valid California driver's license and reliable personal vehicle

  • Ability to drive throughout the Monterey Peninsula service area

  • Smartphone with data plan for scheduling and real-time client communication

  • Physically fit and capable of walking for extended periods, managing multiple dogs, and working outdoors in all weather

  • Must pass a background check prior to starting

  • Pet First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain one before or shortly after hire

  • You must have a valid driver's license and your own reliable vehicle. You will drive to client locations across the service area. Mileage reimbursement is provided for work-related driving.

Schedule & Hours

This is a part-time employee position. Availability is required Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Actual hours scheduled within that window will vary based on client bookings. We are looking for someone who can reliably hold this availability every weekday.

Transportation

You must have a valid driver's license and your own reliable vehicle. You will drive to client locations across the service area. Mileage reimbursement is provided for work-related driving.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18/hour

  • 100% of client-provided tips for visits completed go directly to you

  • Mileage reimbursement for work-related driving

  • Referral bonuses for new clients

  • Tiered pay structure compensation grows as you do

  • Opportunities to advance within a growing business

The safety and wellbeing of our team is a priority. Seaside Pups Pet Care maintains clear client and safety policies to support our employees in the field.

Why You'll Love This Job

  • You'll spend your day mostly outdoors on the Monterey Peninsula improving and fullfilling the lives of animals

  • You'll work with a professional, supportive team that values what you do

  • You're trusted with real responsibility and treated like the professional you are

  • You're part of a growing local business where your work directly shapes the client experience

  • Every day looks a little different, and the views don't hurt

Why This Job Might Not Be For You

We believe in being upfront. Here's what to know before you apply:

  • Hours are not guaranteed. Your schedule is built around client bookings, which vary week to week. Some weeks will be fuller than others.

  • You will work outdoors in all weather. The Monterey Peninsula is beautiful, but it's also foggy, windy, and occasionally rainy. This is not an office job.

  • You'll be trusted to work alone. Most of your time is spent independently in clients' homes and neighborhoods. If you need constant direction or supervision, this role isn't the right fit.

  • Every client is different. Instructions vary, pets have different personalities, and you'll need to adapt quickly and follow each client's specific preferences carefully.

  • This is physically demanding work. Walking multiple dogs, managing animal behavior, and being on your feet for hours requires real physical stamina.

If none of that puts you off, we'd love to hear from you.

How to Apply

Please complete our online application in full. Only candidates who complete the application will be considered. Those selected for an interview will be contacted directly.
